In major drive City Traffic Police register cases against 937 two wheeler riders for not wearing helmets

Coimbatore: The City traffic police in a major drive to achieve 100% compliance on mandatory helmet wearing in the city have registered cases against 937 bikers for driving without helmets in the city limits.
The city police had earlier announced that two-wheelers would be checked at 15 locations in the city limits on January 27 to ensure 100 percent compliance of mandatory wearing of helmets.
Accordingly, the Coimbatore City Policeset up special check posts at 15 places from morning to evening and checked the passing bikes and two wheelers.
Of these, 937 of those who came in 1,282 vehicles without helmets have been booked under the Motor vehicles Act. As many as 345 people were let off after stern warning.
A total of 3,875 people, including 2,543 riders who wore helmets and 1,282 who rode without helmets, were given training sessions on traffic rules and how to travel safely on city roads.
